Chemistry 101

I am not sure if I mentioned that hubby talked me into buying a science curriculum for our kids...to start this summer :O. He sat through the session that was given by Gravitas Publications- Real Science 4 Kids and was so excited about it that it was quite cute. It's hard not to be excited too when he is. So we decided that we would buy the first set and try it out this summer. I had wanted to start sooner this summer but found myself busy with other things. Finally, I decided that no time would seem like a good time and just dove in. (Great exercise in homeschool- gotta just do it!) The cool thing about it was that it didn't need to happen at a certain time. I just picked up the book and read the first chapter to the kids in the morning. It was a short chapter with few words and colorful illustrations. Then, after their naptime and before dinner, I did the little "experiment" that they had for them. I made E-pie her own little journal (paper stapled together) to record (draw) her observations and thinking while I recorded her words. By the end of the day, both kids could tell us that everything is made up of atoms. E-pie could tell us that things are different because they are made up of different atoms and that when you put atoms together, you make molecules!!! That felt pretty awesome. So we will continue with our lessons. I even wonder if we can take it on the road with us ;)

Happy Birthday Super C!!!

My little baby is now 3 years old. I cannot believe how fast he has grown and what a giant heart the Lord has blessed him with. A couple of months ago as his birthday was approaching, tornadoes tore through Alabama. Our hearts were heavy with the sadness this disaster had caused, but we were determined that we could do something to help. So as we thought about his birthday and what it could be, we were filled with excitement when we came up with the super hero theme. The theme was fitting and with some help from Puking Pastilles, Plum Pear Apple Designs Super Hero Capes, and Living Locurto, I put together my version of a super hero party!

The funny thing was that the weather was calling for isolated thunderstorms to start at the time of C-bear's party. At first, I worried and wondered if I should change venues. Then, I realized it was no use to worry. We prayed about it. We praised God that evening for keeping the rain away so everyone could have a good time and we had the ENTIRE park to ourselves! It felt like I had rented the place out for our own private use. The kids all had a blast running around in their costumes...C-bear, of course, would not wear his. The food my mom provided was a hit as usual. We raised over $300 to send to Alabama to help the victims of the tornado. All in all, a great day! Enjoy some of the pics from the event!

Talented hubby made an awesome detailed searchlight cake!
